AirTag gets a second generation
Apple introduced a new generation of AirTag in 2026. The basic idea is unchanged: attach a small tracker to keys, bags, luggage, and other belongings, then use Apple’s Find My network to help locate them.
Expanded Precision Finding
The second-generation model uses newer Ultra Wideband technology designed to increase the useful range of Precision Finding. When a compatible iPhone is close enough, the system can guide you toward the item with distance and direction information.
A louder speaker
Apple also increased speaker output, making it easier to hear an AirTag hidden inside a bag, under furniture, or among other belongings. Small improvements like this can matter more in everyday use than a completely redesigned app.
Find My network remains the main advantage
AirTag depends on Apple’s large Find My network. Nearby participating Apple devices can securely help report the approximate location of a lost AirTag while the system is designed around encrypted and privacy-protective location handling.
Who should buy AirTag 2?
It is especially useful for iPhone users who travel, carry expensive equipment, or frequently misplace everyday items. Owners of the first generation do not necessarily need to replace every tracker, but the improved finding range and louder speaker may justify upgrading the tags attached to your most important items.
